There are a lot of benefits in a vegetarian diet, of which the principals could be health, the care for environment, and the budget.

Studies keep showing that we don’t need as much proteins as we thought a few decades ago. In fact, eating as little as 50 g of animal protein a day could be harmful for most people. Many North Americans eat twice more than that. The reason being that animal protein is very complex to digest compared to plant protein, and most people’s digestive system is of poor efficiency, due to all overcooked, transformed foods and pesticides that we eat, combined with a lot bigger portions than necessary. So meat is hard to digest, and it leaves a lot of toxins, fats and acidity in the body, which has a hard time getting rid of this waste. Our body needs a lot of fibers, vegetables, greens and fruits to cleanse itself, but the amount needed to compensate for meat-eating is quite great (8-10 portions a day might not be enough to repair the harm that 50 g of meat did to your organism… But still, it helps!)

Becoming vegetarian and eating a well balanced diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, legumes, complete cereals, nuts, sprouts, greens and seeds is probably the best diet one could have in order to get all nutrients, vitamins, minerals, enzymes (in raw foods only) and energy one needs.  The benefits of such elements are endless, working against cancer, bad cholesterol, artery’s troubles, heart diseases, and so on.

If you still feel the need to eat meat, please add many plants to your diet, it will help your body a lot.

A vegetarian diet cares for the environment

Whether it is for animal rights, for the good sake of the soil, or for the place needed for agriculture, being vegetarian (or, even better, vegan) is the key. Agriculture uses less oil than farming animals, less water, less place, les hormones, etc. Of course, when one is concerned about the environment, one should also understand that organic food helps the soil, air, and water be healthy, as non-organic food destroys them, and destroys us too. Learning to become aware of this when we buy what we eat can only benefit the earth, human beings, and the environment alike. (which could be considered as one and only thing: part of the universe)

A vegetarian diet benefits your budget

Absolutely! A plant based diet is much cheaper than a diet which includes a lot of animal products. Learn to buy in large quantities of the non-perishable ingredients, and buy the fresh foods from local markets when available, and you will soon find out that you spend a lot less money than before on foods. Once you realize that, a great idea would be to allow yourself to spent the money you once paid for meat on organic products instead… your body will thank you!

Keep those benefits in mind when considering adopting a vegan or vegetarian diet.
